The troop tool serves a multitude of missions, which are:

· A safety staff to help the X-country traveler negotiate steep, unstable terrain and eliminate falls
· An angled shovel to dig and accurately throw dirt at flare-ups or cool down burning snags
· A better McLeod or scraping tool  with a curved blade to slice through litter
· A better fire rake with a high back to clear a swath through leaves
· A stand erect mixing, chinking and mop-up tool with shovel point hitting ground first
· A quick release from the universal handle, and the fire fighter can snap-lock on a secondary cutting or beating tool attachment
